TSA’s Newest Record: Firearms Seizures

GunAs I mentioned early last month, TSA was well on their way to set a record year for seizing carry-on guns from passengers. Well, they did it in style.

The final number for 2014 was 2,212 guns, an increase of more than 20% from the previous year and almost three times the number from only seven years ago. Even more scary, an incredible 83% were loaded. By way of comparison, TSA takes away more firearms at security than they do for snow globes.

For those who love stats, this is more than six handguns every day but that number doesn’t tell the whole story. Only five airports accounted for 20% of all the weapons. In other words, there were many days at these five where TSA seized a dozen or more guns.

Oh, and these numbers don’t include the swords, the fake handguns, and the fake grenades.
