Thanks for the Email, Hyatt!

A couple weeks ago, I did a wrap up of Wi-Fi services from the major hotel chains. The easiest and best program is offered by Hyatt while the worst – bringing up a very distant and lonely rear – is Hilton.

Hyatt was kind enough (well, actually smart) to send out an email to their Platinum and Diamond members reminding them that complimentary premium Wi-Fi service will be available starting on Valentine’s Day. Well, they didn’t mention the holiday but this will begin on February 14, 2015. Their link in the email takes you to their press release announcement.

Sure, this is a marketing email and Hyatt wants me to book my future stays with them. But it’s funny, I have yet to receive a similar email from any of the other chains where I have status. I am talking about Marriott (Platinum), Starwood (Gold), and Hilton (Diamond).

Maybe Marriott is still a bit absorbed with other issues. And if you look carefully, Starwood doesn’t say anything about offering free premium internet services to their Gold elites, nor for their Platinum elites either. They offer some nice benefits but high speed Wi-Fi isn’t one of them.

So why didn’t I receive a similar email from Hilton? Well, they can’t because their top elites only receive complimentary basic, slow internet. In fact, Hilton is now the only major hotel provider that doesn’t offer free Wi-Fi for all their guests (subject to certain conditions with some chains).

So thanks for the email, Hyatt. It is a great reminder to check out your properties for my future bookings and thanks for the premium Wi-Fi, too. You are best in class.
