Travel Gems for March 22nd – 26th

Each Monday through Friday, a Travel Gem of the Day will be posted at SmartWomenTravelers.com. These Travel Gems are tips that will help a traveler travel smarter, safer, handle home issues, be prepared and enjoy their journeys.

Here are last week’s Travel Gems:

Monday Mar. 22nd – Google’s GOOG-411 is great for travelers. It’s simple, fast, totally free. Just store 800-GOOG-411 (800-466-4411) in your mobile phone. Provide the location (city and state) and business information by speaking clearly into the phone. Once the information is obtained, Google provides three options to users:

• Google will automatically connect the caller to the business at no cost
• If your mobile device includes text messaging, Google will provide further details on the business by sending a text message to you. Simply say “text message”
• If you have an Internet capable mobile device, Google will send a map of the area to the users cell phone by saying “Map It”

Tuesday Mar. 23rd – Ease tired eyes after a long day of travel: Soak tea bags in hot water for a minute and then plunge them into ice water for a few seconds. Lie down and apply them directly to your eyes for 15 minutes. Alternatively, head to the hotel restaurant and ask for cucumber slices. Rest these on your closed eyes for several minutes. Enjoy the relaxation and freshen up your tired eyes.

Friday Mar. 26th – Keep a few Thank You or blank note cards in your travel bag, along with a few stamps. On the flight home, write notes to the people you met during your trip. People really appreciate getting a hand-written note. Blank note cards are also great for last-minute birthday wishes that need to be mailed out while you’re away from home.
