JW Marriott San Antonio Resort and Spa – Serene is the Word!

a golf course with a large building in the backgroundOn my recent trip to San Antonio, I ventured north into Hill Country. This is a part of Texas I have visited on past trips to the San Antonio area. While I really love the San Antonio area itself, Hill Country – an area made up of rolling hills, peaceful rivers, and beautiful wildflowers – is also a fav and away from the busy-ness of the city.

It was here that I toured a very impressive resort – The JW Marriott San Antonio Resort & Spa.

Much more than just a hotel, the sum of the parts equal a property that will give you every excuse to stay. Besides the 1,002 guest rooms, the JW Marriott includes 36 holes of golf at the TPC San Antonio (a PGA Tour stop), 265,000 square feet of meeting space, a 26,000 square foot world-class spa, a six acre mini-waterpark, and seven restaurant and lounge options, all on 600 acres of Hill Country.

As a business owner, I see a venue that has everything I could want for effective business meetings, whether held in a meeting room, the lounge or on the golf course. As a parent, the Water Park makes this a perfect getaway spot for the family. As a woman, just let me live in the spa for the rest of my life! 🙂

Here are lots of details on the JW’s offerings:

Rooms

The 1,002 guest rooms, including 85 suites, all have subtle touches that don’t let you forget what state you are in. From the ‘Herding Cattle on the Ranch’ watercolor to the hand-tooled leather, copper and ironwork fixtures, the room decor is very fitting. The suite I visited had two bedrooms separated by a spacious common area, three bathrooms, and a grassy fenced in patio (perfect for a family event or when traveling with friends).

The resort’s Lantana Spa houses 30 treatment rooms (including 2 couple and 2 private outdoor rooms), a full fitness center and movement studio, a lagoon-like pool, a healthy Bistro, and a boutique in its 26,000 square-feet. In addition to a full offering of treatments, there are also yoga and fitness classes. To me this spa is 100% serenity is reason enough for a stay at this JW Marriott.

Golf

The TPC San Antonio is only the third location to host two separate PGA Tour events, and it is easy to see why the pros keep coming back. Courses designed by Greg Norman and Pete Dye are serenely located under the oaks and over the hills on property (‘serene’ has become my word for this resort). The club is private and only available to JW Marriott guests and members.

Cuisine

I love that the resort has its own organic produce garden and sources all of its protein, produce, and dairy from local farmers. The culinary options are abundant with the 18 Oaks Steakhouse overlooking the 18th greens of the TPC golf courses and wahoo fish tacos being served at the River Top Bar and Grill. I was a big fan of the homemade biscuits served at Cibolo Moon and the beer selection at High Velocity Sports Bar, which offers many local brews. Also, the Cibolo Moon bar was recently the first restaurant in Texas to be “T” certified by Consejo Regulador del Tequila, so they know their tequila. Ok, so another fitness class would be in order after the great food and drink!

Water Park

Not one to have just a pool, the JW Marriott went big with the River Bluffs Water Experience. Three water slides, a thousand foot long lazy river, a rapid river ride, children’s pools, adult pools, whirlpools and more are included in the six acre water area. Sitting under a cabana sipping an adult beverage after a massage in the spa is my idea of a perfect weekend afternoon!

On a future getaway weekend with my husband, a Friday spent at the Alamo and along the River Walk would be ideal, with Saturday and Sunday spent at the JW Marriott with not a reason to go off property — now that’s a wonderful serene weekend to me!

  1. I live 10 mins from the resort and it is truly a phenomenal hotel. Dont’ forget to try the tequila infusions at Cibolo Moon… they are out of this world

  2. Yes, this resort is definitely a do-over. I talked with my husband tonight about it. He’d like to see the Alamo, I’d like to get to the JW’s spa. Win-Win!
